St. Benedict of Nursia (480–547), the father of Western monasticism, is remembered for his holiness, wisdom, and miracles that revealed God’s protection.
The Miracle of the Poisoned Cup
When St. Benedict began his monastic life, not everyone welcomed his strict discipline. Some monks, angered by his rules, plotted to kill him.
They offered him a cup of wine that had been secretly poisoned.
Benedict, before drinking, made the sign of the Cross over the cup.
At that very moment, the cup shattered as if struck by an unseen force, and the poison was destroyed.
Message of the Miracle: God protects those who seek Him with a pure heart.
St. Benedict’s faith and trust in Christ made him a model of spiritual strength and divine protection.
